Global Fitness Climate Change

Screen Shot 2016-04-24 at 9.24.03 PMWith the presidential election process in full swing, it makes me think about the burning issues of the day, like climate change, for instance.  No matter what you think about it politically, for good or for bad, the planet is getting hotter.  That being the case, we should all think about adapting to a new climate.

It can’t hurt to start with evolving your workout environment and incorporating hot exercise into your weekly routine.

Global warming is one thing, but some added heat to your fitness is another very good thing!  Allowing your body to adapt to a new environment, like a hotter temperature during your workout is a good way to rev up your metabolism.  Adapting your body to a hotter workout “climate” can actually be “anabolic” for muscle development and very positive for your goal attainment.  If you want to learn more, check out an article that I wrote a couple months ago.

In one study, published by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (U.S. National Library of Medicine 8600 Rockville Pike, Bethesda MD, 20894), “USA elite cyclists who hit a chilled space after acclimating to a 104-degree lab showed improvements in performance by 4 to 8 percent.  The study shows that working out in high heat can improve physical performance because of the human ability to adapt to elevated temperatures.  Lorenzo S, http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20724560.  The website greatist.com states that, “These data demonstrate that heat acclimation improves aerobic exercise performance in temperate-cool conditions and provide the scientific basis for employing heat acclimation to augment physical training programs.” http://greatist.com/fitness/are-hot-workouts-safe
